Asian Development Bank promotes Asian regionalism to boost trade, stability

MADRID, Spain – 05/13/08 – The developing countries of Asia are being urged to boost their regional economic ties and improve market surveillance in an effort to create a unified trade front that that would be good for individual economies, good for Asia and good for the world, according to a recent report compiled by the Asian Development Bank; the study urges policy-makers to strengthen supervision, surveillance and dialogue on financial markets through creation of a new high-level ''Asian Financial Stability Dialogue.''

EU Trade Chief Hopeful for Ultimate Doha Success

BRUSSELS, Belgium – 05/08/08 – The European Union’s top trade official is confident that the stalled Doha Round of global trade negotiations will resume by the end of the summer and that a final, comprehensive trade deal will be cobbled together by the end of the year; Peter Mandleson also expressed serious concerns that a Democrat in the White House could mean difficult times for global free trade, despite assurances to the contrary from Democratic leaders in Congress.

Three Ports Plan Cargo Movement Projects

SACRAMENTO – 05/02/08 – The Northern California ports of Oakland, Sacramento, and Stockton are collaborating on plans to improve the movement of cargo moving between the san Francisco Bay Area and distribution centers and markets in the state’s Central Valley; the first plan calls for a deepening of the ship channel linking the Bay Area with the inland deep-water port of Sacramento, while another proposes the development of a ferry/barge system to carry container and break-bulk cargo between the three ports.

Up, Up and Away: Moller International

DAVIS – Untold visionaries from Jules Verne to George Lucas have been fascinated with the idea of personal-use aircraft that would be as simple and safe to use as a bicycle; an expatriate entrepreneur engineer from Canada has made that vision a reality with the development of the SkyCar, a vertical takeoff/landing (VTOL) aircraft for those who want to make waiting in freeway traffic jams a thing of the past.
